In April last year, the talented students of Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) gathered to paint beautiful memory boxes to be donated to Riverside Methodist Hospital. Co-Founder Kerry Janidlo spearheaded the effort in honor of her son Owen’s first birthday, and it was a great success! You can read all about it in the Columbus Dispatch here! We are so excited to have this event planned again this year, for Thursday, April 12th from 11am to 2pm (see details below).
Last year we were so inspired, not only by the students’ talents but also by the thought and care they put into painting the memory boxes. Though most of them had not been touched by an infant loss within their families, they really thought about how those babies could be honored through the memory boxes and how the designs on the boxes could help to heal the families grieving such a loss. The Columbus Dispatch coverage brought awareness to the whole community of the pain a family feels when they lose an infant, and the need and desire to preserve these babies’ memories. We were honored to be a part of an event that helped provide comfort for families and publicity for a cause so close to our hearts.
Thanks to the parents who attended our quarterly event in February, we have many memory boxes prepared with base coats so the CCAD students can work their magic on April 12th! We would be thrilled to have any members of our Alive In My Heart community join us and witness the work being done in honor of our babies and for the benefit of future bereaved families.
